Karnataka government on Saturday issued fresh guidelines as the lockdown imposed in wake of covid cases is due to end on June 14. As per the new guidelines issued by the government, economic and other activities will be allowed in a graded manner w.e.f. 6 am of June 14 to 6 am of June 21, wherein weekend and night curfew are proposed to be imposed.
The order further states that weekend curfew would be in force from 7 pm on June 18 to 5 am on June 21. Additionally, night curfew would be in force on each night on remaining days between 7 pm to 5 am during the aforementioned period.
With Covid-19 situation improving, the Karnataka government on Friday began a phased unlock process.
According to the new guidelines, effective Monday, all shops would be allowed to function in 20 districts where the Covid cases are on the decline. Shops and stand-alone liquor stores would be allowed to operate from 6 am to 2 pm from June 14 in Bengaluru Urban district. Taxis and auto-rickshaws would be allowed to operate but can carry a maximum of 2 passengers only.
The districts of Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Davanagere, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Bengaluru Rural, Mandya, Belagavi, and Kodagu will continue to remain under existing lockdown guidelines until further notice, owing to high positivity rate there. Under the unlock guidelines, all production units/ establishments/ industries would be permitted to function with 50% of their staff strength, strictly adhering to Covid appropriate behaviour.
For the first time in 2 months, Covid test positivity rate declined below 5 per cent in a day across Karnataka, while case fatality rate was up at 1.92 per cent on Thursday, said the state health bulletin on Friday. "Positivity rate declined to 4.86 per cent on Thursday from 6.58 per cent on Wednesday across the state," said the bulletin.
With 159 patients, including 48 in Bengaluru succumbing to the infection across the state, the case fatality rate rose marginally to 1.92 per cent on Thursday from 1.75 per cent on Wednesday.
The state's death toll rose to 32,644 and the city's toll to 15,263 since the pandemic broke out in mid-March a year ago.
