Hyderabad: The Telangana Integrated Secretariat Building is registered with Cll’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) for the integration of sustainability.
CII-IGBC is a leading Green Building Certification Body in India, and a founding member of the World Green Building Council.
In a statement issued here, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Minister of Roads and Buildings, is quoted as saying that the R&B department has always ensured sustainable constructions.
The upcoming secretariat building has several unique features and is being built with a minimum impact on the environment, resulting in energy savings of at least 30 to 50 percent, and water consumption savings of about 20 to 30 percent, compared to conventional buildings. This particular aspect is in line with this year’s theme for World Environment Day – ‘Ecosystem Recovery’.
The project is designed and compiled with the concepts of improved building performance, healthy space for occupants of the building and taking into account the construction norms due to Covid-19 situation.
Residents here will be in constant interaction with nature, which in turn can increase their productivity and maintain their physical and mental well-being.
The secretariat complex is designed to be easily accessible to people with different skills and senior citizens. It incorporates the latest building automation technologies such as lighting controls, CO₂ monitoring, central control of air conditioners and other electrical systems. This project is compiled with materials available locally.
The R&B department also builds new, integrated office buildings in 28 districts that properly meet IGBC standards, which can lead to improving the health and well-being of residents, reducing operating costs and conserving natural resources.
C Shekar Reddy, Chair of IGBC-Hyderabad Chapter, on this development, stressed that IGBC, in collaboration with the R&B Department, has arranged various capacity building programs for engineers and architects at the project.
IGBC is also working closely with the government of Telangana to implement its TSIIC – five-point program for the restoration of existing IT parks as green buildings in Cyberabad Zone, Hyderabad.
The Telangana government has taken a multiple approach to reiterating its commitment to sustainability. Among the important government buildings that followed the green route was the HUDA Annexe building; the commissioner of industries Bhavan, Abids; GHMC West Zone Office; Hyderabad Bhavan; all the Metro stations of Hyderabad Metro Rail, the Secunderabad, Hyderabad Deccan and Kachiguda train stations, Rail Nilayam building, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Telangana Martyr’s Memorial, and Hyderabad City Police Commissionerate Headquarters and Integrated Command & Control Center.
