Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Cyber Crime police on Friday arrested a youngster from Tamil Nadu on charges of harassing a female faculty members of an education institution with morphed photos and extorting money through cryptocurrency.
The arrested person has been identified as P. Tamil Selvan (22), pursuing MSc in Psychiatry, and a resident of Revathipuram of Urapakkam in Tamil Naidu.
The cybercrime police recently received a complaint from two women faculty of a private educational institution stating that unidentified persons had posted their morphed pictures on social media, following which they were getting calls and being harassed.
Following technical clues, Selvan was traced to his house in Tamil Nadu and nabbed. According to the police, Selvan, who is well versed with technology, randomly browsed the internet for details of women including their phone numbers and e-mail Ids.
He then used apps such as Cut-paste (Photo Morphing App), Kine Master (Video Editing App) to create fake morphed sexually explicit photos and videos of the victims.
“Once the morphed images are created, he used virtual number apps and registered them on Telegram and created a fake profile to hide his true identity,” said an official.
Selvan sent those morphed sexually explicit photos to the victims on Telegram and demanded money via cryptocurrency and if the victims declined his demands, he used to post their phone numbers on various Groups and harass them.
He was produced before the court for remanded in judicial custody.
