Baker Hughes data show a weekly climb in U.S. oil-drilling rigs

Baker Hughes BKR, +1.48% on Friday reported that the number of active U.S. rigs drilling for oil was up by six at 365 this week. The increase was the largest since the week ended May 14. Last week, the number was unchanged at 359. The total active U.S. rig count, which includes those drilling for natural gas, rose by five to stand at 461, according to Baker Hughes. July West Texas Intermediate crude CLN21, +1.04% continued to trade higher for the session. The contract was up 83 cents, or 1.2%, to $71.12 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
