Charkop Police arrested a chain snatcher, a history-sheeter, who had been wanted in several cases registered against him across police stations in the western suburbs. The arrested accused, Satyajit Kaur alias Vishal, 24, was wanted in a chain-snatching incident at Malvani on May 31. Vishal has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to police, on May 31, when a 60-year-old man was walking near a hospital, a scooter-borne accused snatched a 15-gram chain that the senior citizen was wearing. Soon after the incident, the 60-year-old man approached Charkop Police and lodged a complaint, wherein the accused was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for theft.

During the probe, police scrutinised the CCTV camera footage and visited the spot, wherein the accused was identified as Vishal with the help of technical and human intelligence. Police then sought details on Vishal's whereabouts and laid a trap near Malvani Gate No. 7, where he was apprehended for his role in the chain snatching.

Police learnt during the investigation that Vishal was involved in a series of crimes, ranging from theft to assault to drug charges. While police are probing the matter further, they have recovered the stolen gold chain and the scooter used at the time of committing the offence.
