Navi Mumbai, June 11: The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three persons who allegedly assaulted a senior citizen and robbed him of his gold chain on Wednesday from Uttar Pradesh. The accused had fled by train after committing the crime.
The police said that the complainant, Trombak Dahatondre, 65, runs a general store in sector 13 in New Panvel. Around 12.10 pm on May 20, three unknown persons came to his shop and started assaulting him with iron pipes. They later snatched his gold chain worth Rs 1.30 lakh and ran away in an auto.
A case was registered against three unknown persons under sections 394, 452, and 34 of Indian Penal Code at Khandeshwar police station. While the Khandeshwar police were already investigating the case, the crime branch carried out a parallel investigation.
“During investigating, it was learned that the accused ran away to their hometown in Uttar Pradesh after committing the crime. We then sent a team there and they arrested them with the help of the local police. We also recovered the stolen chain and the auto used in the crime,” said a police officer.
The arrested men were identified as Shahnawaz Shaikh, 35, a driver by profession, Sehmat Ansari, 23. A rickshaw driver, and Raushan Kumar Natt, 21, a watchman. The police also recovered the autorickshaw that was used for the crime.
