The Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) will reopen for morning walkers and cyclist from Tuesday, June 15 after it was closed in April in the wake of the second wave of Covid-19 lockdown. Morning walkers will be able to visit the park between 5.am and 7.30 am and from 7.30 am to 9 am for cyclists daily.

The park will remain closed on Mondays.

"For the safety of captive animals, the road towards safari and rescue centres have been kept closed," said G Mallikarjuna, director of SGNP

He added "Following the similar protocol as earlier, those without masks will not be allowed to enter. Any person having symptoms associated with Covid-19 is requested to avoid entering the park and if they do, their details will be shared with the nearest Covid-19 centre.

Earlier this year when the park re-opened, park authorities had restricted entry to private vehicles. Paid Parking facilities have been made available for visitors/tourists in a newly developed parking area. Besides BEST buses have been made available for the visitors to travel within the park.

"Even though we are allowing entry to tourists, lowering the facemasks and violation of social distancing will not be tolerated," added Mallikarjuna
