Kate Middleton Congratulates Meghan Markle on Lilibet: 'Can't Wait to Meet Her'

Kate Middleton publicly congratulated her sister-in-law Meghan Markle on the birth of her daughter Lilibet on Friday, saying she "can't wait to meet" the baby.

Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, announced the birth of their second child on Sunday, gushing that Lilibet—who is expected to be known as Lili for short—was "more than we could have ever imagined."

With the proud parents now based in Meghan's native California since they stepped down from their royal duties, Harry's U.K.-based family members have yet to meet the baby.

Kate, who shares three children with Harry's elder brother, Prince William, was asked for her thoughts on the baby news during an engagement at a school in Cornwall, England, with first lady Jill Biden.

In video shared on Twitter by Hello! royal editor Emily Nash, Kate smiled broadly as she said: "I wish her all the very best. I can't wait to meet her. We haven't met her yet, I hope that will be soon."

While Prince Harry is scheduled to travel back to the U.K. this summer for a ceremony at London's Kensington Palace honoring his late mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday, it has yet to be announced when Meghan and the children will visit.

Meghan and Harry's baby's full name is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, in tribute to Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his mother.

Lilibet—a shortened version of Elizabeth—is the nickname for the queen used by close relatives, including her late husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Meghan, who is also mother to two-year-old son Archie with Prince Harry, didn't get the opportunity to meet Princess Diana, as she died in a car crash in 1997.

In his new AppleTV+ docuseries The Me You Can't See, which was co-created with Oprah Winfrey, Harry spoke candidly about his mother's funeral during which he and his brother walked behind the coffin before vast crowds in London and a television audience.

"For me, the thing I remember the most was the sound of the horse's hooves going along the Mall, the red brick road. By this point both of us were in shock," he said.

"It was like I was outside of my body. I'm just walking along and doing what was expected of me, showing the one-tenth of the emotion that everybody else was showing. This was my mom, you never even met her."
