Sangrur, June 10

At a time when the city stinks with heaps of garbage in every nook and cranny, and even on roads, politics over garbage has intensified. On Thursday SAD leaders along with former municipal councillors staged a protest and demanded the lifting of garbage while AAP has already been protesting.

Sanitation staff has been on a strike since May 12 demanding regularisation of jobs. Congress leaders and senior officials have failed to offer any satisfactory reply to the protesting sanitation staff.

“The Punjab Government has failed to take any step to solve the problems of sanitation staff and heaps of garbage dot the city. We have no option but to protest as neither elected representatives nor bureaucrats are taking any action to solve the issue,” said Parkash Chand Garg, former SAD MLA from Sangrur.

Two days ago, AAP leaders had also staged a protest in the city and announced to launch indefinite agitation against the state government.

“During a meeting, the sanitation staff allowed the administration to lift garbage from near the civil hospital and the vegetable market. We will make required arrangement,” said Ramvir, DC, Sangrur.
