11 die, 7 injured as building collapses in Mumbai

Eleven people died and seven were injured after a residential structure collapsed on a building nearby following heavy monsoon rains in Mumbai.

The incident was reported at a slum in Malavani area of Malad in western suburbs late on Wednesday.

According to the civic body, another three-storey building adjacent to the collapsed structure has been evacuated as it is in a dangerous condition. Search and rescue operation for trapped people is in progress.

The names of the deceased were given as Sahil Sarfaraz Sayyed, 9, Arifa Sheikh, 9, Shafiq Md. Saleem Siddiqui, 45, Tausif Shafiq Siddiqi, 15, Aalisha Shafiq Siddiqui, 10, Alfisa Shafiq Siddiqui, 1.5, Afina Shafik Siddiqui, 6, Ishrat Bano Shafiq Siddiqui, 40, Rahisa Bano Rafik Siddiqui, 40, Tahes Safik Siddiqui, 12, Jhon Irranna, 13.

Of the seven injured people Marikumari Hirangana, 30, is in a critical condition, while Dhanalaxmi Baby, 56, Salim Shaikh 49, Rizwana Sayyad, 33, Suryamani Yadav, 39, Karim Khan, 30, and Gulzar Ahmed Ansari, 26, are all stable.
