Chennai: At 7 am on Sunday next, Socialism will wed Mamata Banerjee blessed by Marxism and Leninism at Ammani Kondalampatti Kattoor in western Tamil Nadu’s Salem district. This is not a prank.
The groom is indeed AM Socialism, the son of A Mohan, the Salem district unit secretary of the Communist Party of India and AM Marxism and Leninism, the groom’s siblings, will be among the attendees at the wedding that is slated at their modest home in view of the Covid-19 lockdown. The bride Mamata Banerjee, a BA English Literature graduate, hails from a Congress family and is distantly related to Socialism. She was named so when Mamata Banerjee was a firebrand Congress leader, before she formed the All India Trinamool Congress.
For those familiar with this family this is no surprise. In fact, the three brothers with the unique name came to limelight in 2016 when Mohan entered the fray in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as a candidate of the People’s Welfare Front of which the CPI was a constituent. The identities of his children were revealed in his election affidavit, amusing many.
Mohan has been receiving calls from random strangers ever since the invitation card for the wedding of Socialism and Mamata Banerjee containing his phone number was shared on social media platforms. “I do not know who put it on Twitter but it has gone viral. As an ardent communist, I had named my sons after the three ideologies when the Soviet Union disintegrated. I wanted their ideological names to live forever,” Mohan said.
The wedding will be graced by CPI State secretary R Mutharsan and party MP K Subbarayan among others.
Communism and Leninism are already married and Socialism is the youngest of the siblings. What’s more Leninism has named his son Marxism!
