Ujjain: Panic prevailed in Barnagar tehsil of the district following the murder of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader under Bhatpachalana police station area here on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, body of Samrath Singh Chauhan (43), resident of Bhatpachalana, was recovered about half a kilometre away from his home from a roadside ditch at about 2.30 pm.
Panic prevailed in the area as the deceased was identified as the president of Ratlam unit of BSP.
SP Satyendra Kumar Shukla along with ASP (rural) Akash Bhuria and others rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
SP was camping at the spot till 9 pm. He told Free Press that deceased father had seen him till 10.30 pm on Wednesday, but he was not found at his home at 6.30 am and the doors of the house were intact from outside. The family members lodged his missing report in the police station at 11.30 pm.
According to SP, the short PM report confirmed that the deceased was murdered though the wound marks on his head and other parts of the body suggest that he was attacked by some hard object. The last rites of deceased were held in the night itself amid tight security. He is survived by his wife and their son and daughter. SP did not reveal cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, the district unit of MP Anusuchit Jaat-Janjaati Adhikari-Karmchari Sangh (AJJAKS) has strongly condemned the incident. District president Dr Ratanlal Parmar, executive president Jagannath Bagri, secretary Surendra Malviya and others said that a memorandum seeking CID enquiry into the case will be submitted to IG on Friday.
