PUNE: A gang of three unknown men in the early hours of Thursday cut a cash dispensing machine of public sector bank in Panjarpol area in Bhosari and made off with Rs 22.9 lakh.
Irony was that a woman in the building had heard some sounds in the early hours. She however did not inform the police. "In the morning around 8am, when she was out for a morning walk, the woman noticed the broken machine and alerted us," Senior inspector Shankar Awtade of the Bhosari police told TOI.
Awtade said that the suspects cut the machine by using the gas cutter. "The bank officials informed us that their was Rs 22 lakh in the machine," Awtade said.
He said, "There was no security guard and the CCTV at the kiosk. Moreover, there was siren in the kiosk too."
Awtade said that the police are working on some clues. "We will soon arrest the suspects," he said.
An officer from the bank Arvind Bhide (58) has lodged an FIR with the Bhosari police. Additional commissioner of police Pimpri Chinchwad Ramnath Pokale, deputy commissioner Manchak Ipper and assistant commissioner Sagar Kawde visited the spot.
