Euro 2020: In a major boost to England, defender Harry Maguire has resumed training prior to their EURO 2020 opener against Croatia on Sunday.
The Manchester United defender hasn’t been able to kick the ball since he got hurt in the Aston Villa match. Despite his injury, he managed to sneak in into Gareth Southgate’s final 26 man squad and it seems the wait has paid off finally.
Given he passes the fitness test ahead of the first match he should be the first name on the team sheet alongside Harry Kane but Southgate is unlikely to risk his most valued defender and is poised to leave him out of the starting lineup.
Euro 2020: The former Leicester City player was provided ample time as he had been working on his own in the gym to recuperate from the injury. Doubt still hovering over his match fitness and should Southgate decide to go ahead without his most trusted player the gaffer could switch to a back three in the first match.
Euro 2020: Maguire’s injury proved too costly for The Red Devils as they lost the Europa League final against Villarreal in penalties. The Three Lions manager was unsure of Maguire’s participation till last week but with the defender recovering rapidly he could well be in line to make his EURO 2020 debut against Scotland next Friday.
