This motor is paired to a 7-speed DSG with a shift by wire system. There is no option for a manual transmission with the new Octavia. Skoda no longer sells diesel-powered vehicles in India and that's why only the petrol engine option is on offer.
The new 2021 Skoda Octavia gets a new interior design with beige and black theme with storage spaces being offered in plenty. The front seats on the new Octavia are electronically adjustable and these come with a memory function as well. Taking the center stage is a 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment display. The new 2021 Skoda Octavia is bigger compared to the outgoing model, although the difference in dimensions isn't much. In order to be precise, the new model measures 4,689mm in length, 1,829mm in width and 1,469mm in height. The wheelbase of the new car is 2,680mm and this should translate into decent cabin space.
The new fourth-gen 2021 Skoda Octavia certainly looks more appealing than the outgoing model and a major reason behind that is the sharper design language. The new model gets sleek all-LED headlamps and tail lamps along with a wider grille at the front. In addition, there are sharp creases and lines across the body along with a smart shoulder line that lend this car a more dynamic look than before.
After the three generations of the highly-admired Skoda Octavia managed to keep the enthusiast and buyers happy, now is the time for the new fourth-gen model. The new 2021 Skoda Octavia is set to be launched in India in just a couple of hours from now. If you ask us to describe the new model in one line, well, the new Octavia is bigger, better, and also, more feature-loaded that makes it more desirable than before. Let us then take you through what all has changed in the new 2021 model in the coming updates.
In the year 2013, Skoda Octavia received new engine options. These were 1.4-litre TSI, 1.8-litre TSI and 2.0-litre TDI. Going into the details of these oil burners, the 1.4-litre petrol engine was capable of developing 138hp of power along with 250Nm of torque. On the other hand, the 1.8-litre petrol mill was good for churning out 178hp and 250Nm. Last, the 2.0-litre diesel engine for the Skoda Octavia was capable of generating 141hp and 320Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox was standard with all engine options while the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre mills had automatic transmission options as well.
Skoda was enjoying its big time success with the Octavia. So, the company wanted to offer a new model to offer more to the customers but wanted to keep the previous model in production too. Hence, the Skoda Octavia Mark II was launched as Laura in the year 2005. This one was priced higher than the original Octavia and was more premium. The engine in the Laura was good enough to produce 104hp of power along with 250Nm of torque.
India got its first-ever Skoda Octavia in the year 2002. In fact, the Czech carmaker entered the Indian market with Octavia only. The car became an instant hit in the market and people were actually happy spending a bit more as they were also getting a bit more in return. One of the key reasons behind the popularity of the Skoda Octavia in India was that it had features like power-adjustable ORVMs, power windows, dual-front airbags, ABS, power steering, air conditioner, and more. Thanks to this, Skoda sold 44,000+ units of the Octavia in the first year of its launch.
It was in the month of January 1959 that the first-ever two-door Skoda Octavia rolled off the production line from the company's main plant in Mladá Boleslav, where the said model was manufactured for the first few weeks alongside its predecessors, the Š 440 and Š 445. The first-ever Octavia used to draw power from a 1.1-litre, in-line, four-cylinder engine churning out 39 hp and the same was mated to a four-speed gearbox. The top speed was 110 km/h while the average fuel consumption figure stood at 7.7L per 100 km.
The Octavia nameplate has completed 60 years of its existence. The name 'Octavia' has been derived from the Latin word ‘octavia’ that means - ‘the eighth’. The said name was used for this particular model as the Octavia was the brand’s eighth model since the Second World War. Moreover, it was the eighth Skoda to feature the state-of-the-art independent suspension for all wheels that the company had introduced in the year 1933.
