ANIPeople’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) chief Farooq Abdullah said after a meeting at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s residence on Wednesday that the grouping stands by its aim to strive for restoration of special status and statehood of Jammu and Kashmir and that all options are open for any pro-people engagement with New Delhi. The two former chief ministers of J&K discussed various issues including the Covid-19 crisis and participation of National Conference parliamentarians in the ongoing meetings of the delimitation commission. Abdullah is also the chairman of National Conference.
The PAGD met after six months, during which it was criticised for its inaction about the situation on ground. The meeting assumed importance also because of rumours regarding possible administrative and political changes in J&K. “We haven’t shut any door (for engagement) when they (New Delhi) will invite us… we haven’t closed any option… we will do whatever is good for people,” Abdullah said.
The participants also reiterated that the PAGD, a grouping of regional parties formed in October 2020 to strive for restoration of special status and statehood of J&K, stands by its commitment on the Gupkar Declaration signed by these parties on August 4, 2019.
