CoWin website hacked, 150 million user database for sale

Hyderabad: Register yourself on India’s vaccine registration portal CoWin is mandatory for people in the country to take it Covid-19 vaccine. The site seeks information from individuals that includes a person’s name, cell phone number, Aadhar ID and GPS for registration. This means that the site has already acquired a database of millions of users through the process.

The question here is: “is our data secure?”

In a rather worrying message, a group of hackers named “Dark Leak Market” posted a message on the Dark Web saying that it contains the database of everyone who registered themselves on the CoWin portal. DarkTracer, a profile platform for crime intelligence, shared a screenshot of the message from Dark Leak Market in which he offered to sell the database he had acquired from unknown sources. Dark Leak Market claims to be “reselling” the database for $ 800, declaring that it is not the “original sweets” of the data.

DarkTracker mentioned in their tweet that information from about 150 million vaccines in India is at stake. If the claims are to be believed, all of our date is already in the market prices at $ 800. That said, security questions are now being raised with the biggest essence: “if the government endangers the security of millions of people’s data base in the process of registration. ”
