Mumbai rains: 15 NDRF teams deployed in Maharashtra; additional teams on standby

New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI)The National Disaster Response Force( NDRF) on Thursday said that it has deployed 15 teams in certain parts of the Maharashtra in view of heavy rains predicted by Indian Meteorological Department.

Additional teams have also been kept on standby to meet any exigency, the officials in the Force said.

Sharing the information, NDRF DG SN Pradhan tweeted that four teams have been based in Ratnagiri, two each in Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Palghar, Raigad, Thane and one in Kurla (east Mumbai suburb).

He also said that these teams have been stationed at these locations on the request of the state government in view of heavy rain.



An NDRF team normally comprises of 47 personnel and they are equipped with inflatable boats, wood and pole cutters and basic first aid kits to rescue rains and floods affected victims and launch relief operations.

With the two days early arrival of Southwest Monsoon in the State, heavy rains on Wednesday lashed Mumbai and its suburbs leading to severe water logging that left roads, subways, suburban rail tracks and entire neighbourhood inundated.

Issuing an Orange alert for next three days in Maharashtra, the IMD has forecast heavy down pour in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts till Saturday.
