Bihar began lifting Covid lockdown restrictions, in force in the state for more than a month, from June 9.
Certain curbs, however, will not be lifted, the govt announced. Night curfew and shortened business hours will continue to be in force. The restriction on public gatherings also remains in place.
Some of these restrictions will remain in force for another week after which there would be a review and further instructions would be issued, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said.
Below are the new guidelines, issued for now for the first unlock phase (June 9-15):
— Special passes no longer needed for private cars outside of night curfew hours.
— Shops can do business from 8 am to 5 pm Before the unlocking, shops were allowed to open from 6 am to 2 pm.
— "Alternate day" system for shops that don't deal in essential goods such as grocery, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat and fish.
— Schools, colleges, universities and coaching institutes may resume online teaching but shall not hold any examinations.
— Religious places will remain shut for the common public.
— Old restrictions, such as no in-dining, still in force for restaurants. Home delivery and take-away will be allowed.
— Govt offices allowed to function with 50 per cent of staff strength. Till now, it was 25 per cent.
— Private workplaces can reopen, with the same conditions.
— All workplaces — both private and government ones — will have to shut by 4 pm.
— No reopening yet for malls, cinema halls, gyms and parks.
— Weddings allowed, but with three-day advance notice to the nearest police station. Attendance capped at 20 people. No baraat processions and DJ music allowed.
— Maximum attendance of 20 people for funerals.
— Wearing of masks by all those venturing out — pedestrians, those travelling by cars, scooters, motorcycles — is mandatory.
