Bengal BJP to move president on violence, Rajib Banerjee sounds different

KOLKATA: Bengal BJP leaders will knock the doors of Rashtrapati Bhavan against the continuing post-poll violence in Bengal and the “inaction” of the state government in containing it. But, before that, BJP will hit the streets from June 23 to reassure workers who have also been blaming the “inaction” of party leaders.
“More than 30 workers were killed after Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as CM. We have mailed 6,500 complaints to the chief secretary. But, there has been no response as yet,” Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said after the state office-bearers’ meeting at Hastings office on Tuesday.
BJP national vice-president Mukul Roy was, however, absent. Leaders said Roy was not keeping well and his wife was critical.
But discordant voices were also heard during the day. Trinamool-turned-BJP leader Rajib Banerjee used his Twitter handle to voice the “over-dependence” of Bengal BJP leaders on Delhi. “There has been enough criticism… threat of Article 356 and looking up to leaders in Delhi didn’t go down well with the people. We should rise above politics and stand by people and work for them amid the pandemic and help Yaas victims,” Banerjee said.
Bengal BJP on Tuesday formed a three-member disciplinary committee under Bankura MP Subhas Sarkar. The committee will look into public utterances by some members and portfolio-holders recently.
