Kanpur, Jun 9(UNI) The death toll in the collision between a tempo and a double-decker bus in Kisan Nagar under Sachendi police station area of Kanpur reached 18 on Wednesday.
All those who have died are tempo riders. Four passengers were still critical and were getting treatment at the hospital, police here said.
While 16 died at the spot on Tuesday night, the remaining two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital on Wednesday morning.
After the bus crushed the tempo, both the vehicles fell into a 20-feet-deep ditch.
The post-mortem of all the 18 people killed in the road accident have been conducted.
The double-decker bus of Kalpana Travels left Fazalganj for Ahmedabad at around 2000 hrs on Tuesday night. There were about 100 passengers in the bus.
At around 2030 hrs, the bus reached near Kisan Nagar Bharat Gas Agency, when a tempo full of passengers came from the front. After a head-on collision, the bus fell into a ditch on the side of the road. According to the police, 21 people were aboard the tempo, out of which 18 died.
There were 21 people in the tempo including the driver. All of them were employees of Ambaji Parle Biscuit Factory in Sachendi's Ladder Itara. They were going to factory for night shift duty.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus was at high speed on the highway. The driver had no idea that someone would come from the opposite direction on the highway.
Of the deceased 17 were identified as Rajneesh (20) ,Shivbhajan(22) ,Ram Milan(24) ,Lovelesh (20) ,Golu Parihar (20), Dharmaraj( 22),Karan Singh (35), Gaurav(22),Nanhu Paswan (22),Subhash Pasi (20), Uday Narayan Yadav (60),Gyanendra Singh Parihar (50), Dhaniram Kuril (55), Balbir Yadav (50), Surendra Yadav (45), Annu Singh (18) and tempo driver Man Singh (32).
