- Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi said Kaizer Chiefs may have been too hasty in firing Gavin Hunt.
- Hunt was fired by the most successful club at the end of last month after a shocking league run despite a dream CAF Champions League campaign.
- Former Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter is rumoured to return to Naturena for a second stint with the Glamour Boys.
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi hinted at Kaizer Chiefs being hasty in firing former coach Gavin Hunt.
Hunt, who was unveiled as Chiefs coach at the start of the 2020/21 season where he replaced Ernst Middendorp, was fired on 28 May as Chiefs teetered on the brink of a possible promotion/relegation playoff.
The 56-year-old Hunt guided Chiefs to their first ever CAF Champions League semi-final appearance where they'll be facing Wydad Casablanca over two legs later this month.
Mngqithi said Chiefs, who sneaked into the top eight by virtue of winning their last two league games under the guidance of Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard, should have been more patient with Hunt.
"Gavin Hunt achieved something at Chiefs that was never achieved and he's out of his job," Mngqithi said.
"We change because we are emotional, but that is how football works. Gavin Hunt has won four trophies.
"When they brought him in, they couldn't say they didn't know the type of football he plays and has won trophies with that type of football.
"If all of a sudden you're not happy with his style of football, why did you bring the coach in? He couldn't change what he was doing through the years.
"He couldn't sign the players he wanted to play the football he wanted. The less said the better."
Former Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki has already moved to Chiefs, fuelling suspicion that his Bafana Bafana predecessor Stuart Baxter will be returning to Naturena for a second stint.
Baxter guided Kaizer Chiefs to league success in the 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons, while also winning the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 in his stay with the club.
