It has been over two years since we first heard about Google's interest in releasing a foldable smartphone. Such a move makes complete sense considering other well-known brands like Samsung and Huawei have already released a bunch of foldable. The rumor mill went silent in the past few months but a fresh report has emerged claiming the development plans are still on track.

The report claims that Samsung will start producing foldable OLED panels for Google in October. It will also supply these panels to Xiaomi and Vivo who are also working on their respective foldable phones. It corroborates a previous report that also mentioned Samsung Display as the supplier for Google's first-gen Pixel fold device.

It goes on to add that all of the aforementioned OEMs are looking at a fourth-quarter release timeline. Ross Young, a display analyst, has further claimed in his tweet that we would see the first Google Pixel Fold launch towards the end of 2021. If this turns out to be true and the development continues as per the company's expectations, we are only a few months away from the launch.

Unfortunately, details related to Pixel Fold's technical specifications and design are pretty scarce at the moment. Some speculate that Google will go for a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 design approach. It is expected to sport a 7.6-inch primary display with an inward folding mechanism.
