Hyderabad: Rockwell Industries in Hyderabad joined hands with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories to Certify WHO PQS (World Health Organization – Performance, Quality and Safety) Covid-19 vaccine freezers to enable storage of Sputnik V vaccine across India.
According to an official statement issued by Rockwell, the Covid-19 vaccines are temperature sensitive and therefore require precise temperature to maintain their strength. The vaccine freezer plays a very important role in the safety of vaccines and their potency.
Sputnik V vaccine made available by Dr Reddy in India requires a temperature range of minus -18 degrees Celsius to keep the vaccine stable and powerful.
“Rockwell has taken the lead in developing the vaccine freezers according to the WHO PQS standard. After three years of effort, the Rockwell R&D team achieved the goal of obtaining a strict design protocol, and finally the product was tested at the WHO-authorized testing laboratory in Denmark certified two different sizes of vaccine freezers. The freezer can also handle difficult conditions of use in rural areas and maintain the desired temperature range, thus breaking the barrier of the cold chain against the vaccine, ‘they said.
Ashok Gupta, managing director of Rockwell Industries Ltd, said: ‘This is a great recommendation for us Covid-19 vaccine freezer. Our technology ensures that the storage management of Sputnik V at vaccination centers complies with the strict refrigeration standards set out by Sputnik V manufacturers. ”
Prateek Gupta, Director of Rockwell Industries Ltd, said: “Rockwell is working closely with Dr. Reddy to develop and provide wireless IoT-based controllers and data loggers that provide access to real-time temperature and performance data for the vaccine freezers that address the conditions of the vaccine storage. in every place across the country. ”
“Many hospitals, such as AIG hospitals, Apollo, Omega and Care hospitals, already use Rockwell’s Vaccine Freezers to store vaccines, and many more hospitals and institutions are approaching us for this. We have the capacity to manufacture about 1,000 machines per day. We are exporting our vaccine freezers to various developed countries, including an initial pilot agreement with Japan, ‘Prateek added.
According to recent WHO data, 5-20 percent of vaccines lose their potency due to lack of temperature control or persistent cold chain during vaccine transport, Rockwell said.
