As per the latest figures, 23 crore doses of vaccines have been given out in the country so far. Out of this, 4.5 crore people are fully vaccinated. This means only 3.3 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, India recorded 92,596 new cases of coronavirus infections and 2,219 deaths in the last 24 hours. And with the shortage of vaccines and whatnot, the health ministry has now placed advance orders for a total of 44 crore doses of Covishield and Covaxin to be supplied between August and December. While many people are unable to book slots online due to the high demand, there are some who are reluctant to get vaccinated owing to many reasons. Most, however, refuse owing to a lack of information and awareness. Recently, actor-host Shekhar Sumar highlighted the same in a series of new tweets. He shared that many members of his domestic staff believed that they 'would die the next day' after receiving the vaccine as he talked about 'vaccine hesitancy'. Furthermore, he talked about the need of educating such people at the earliest. His first tweet read, 'My helpers in the house thought if they take the vaccines they will die the next day.i had a tough time to explain that it is the only way to stay safe.God save ppl from such misinformation and rumours. Its our duty to educate these naive ignoramuses.' He then added, 'I've coaxed and helped atleast a hundred ppl to get themselves vaxed.i implore all of you to help as many as you can. This is the only way we can go back to being a safe and normal world.' He finally concluded his appeal with a wordplay. Signing off, he wrote, 'Don't be LAX take ur VAX.' For the unversed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his recent address to the nation announced that the Centre would take over the task of vaccination from state governments and provide COVID-19 vaccines free of cost to all adults over the age of 18 starting from June 21.
