Nagpur: Over 65,000 final year students of Nagpur University have been waiting for their winter-2020 examinations results for over two months.
All of them belonged to odd semesters of final year like fifth in case of general courses, seventh for engineering and ninth for architecture and law degree courses of five years. Now, they would be appearing in their final semester exams commencing from June 15 with practicals and are worried about previous results.
Admitting the delay, Board of Examination and Evaluation (BOEE) director Prafulla Sable told TOI that for about one and half months, which officials from the Exam Section referred to as “zero period”, no work could be done due to Covid-19 wave.
NU also lost two highly efficient employees to the deadly disease. Thirty nine other staffers had also contracted the virus, thus severely crippling the exam and result works. Many also had to look after one or more of their family members who got infected in April and May. Maharashtra government had also imposed restrictions on presence of office staff in the same period.
“We faced another problem in the form of technical glitches. Over 7,000 students couldn’t appear in the online papers due to slow net connectivity, log-in and other problems. Though we had taken their re-exam, most students again approached us with the grievances that they were unable to either log-in or faced the same technical issues,” the director said.
Now, NU would be conducting a second re-exam of these students from June 10 to 14 after which their results would be declared. “We are trying to declare results of all 47 exams in which these 65,000 students appeared before June 29. In fact, our BBA, BCom and BCCA results are almost ready and we would announce them within three days of the end of reexam. Except for the final year, we have declared results of about 130 other exams. They include failure and external students from various faculties. Their exams were conducted by respective colleges that sent their marks to us,” Sable said.
