Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez Ramps Up Offensive Against Democratic Party, Says Wasting Time Negotiating With GOP

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is continuing to ramp up her offense against the Democratic Party, this time for wasting time in negotiations with Republicans.

Reminding her party that their control over the House, Senate and White House could easily change in a matter of months, Ocasio-Cortez urged her fellow Democrats to move quickly and push as much legislation through while they can.

"During the Obama admin, folks thought we'd have a 60 Dem majority for a while. It lasted 4 months. Dems are burning precious time & impact negotiating w/GOP who won't even vote for a Jan 6 commission. McConnell's plan is to run out the clock," the progressive firebrand tweeted on Wednesday. "It's a hustle. We need to move now."

In another tweet, the New York congresswoman wrote: "Pres. Biden & Senate Dems should take a step back and ask themselves if playing patty-cake w GOP Senators is really worth the dismantling of people's voting rights, setting the planet on fire, allowing massive corporations and the wealthy to not pay their fair share of taxes, etc"

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden ended negotiations with Senate Republicans over infrastructure legislation, saying he appreciated their "good faith conversations" but that the latest GOP offer didn't "meet the essential needs of our country." He is expected to now turn his attention to a bipartisan group of senators who are preparing their own infrastructure proposal.

At the same time, the For the People Act, the House-passed sweeping voting rights bill, remains stalled in the Senate—further derailing Biden's agenda.

Ocasio-Cortez's tweets are part of her latest criticism of the Democratic Party.

A day earlier, the congresswoman called out Vice President Kamala Harris' remarks from Guatemala, in which Harris explicitly told migrants "do not come" to the United States.

"This is disappointing to see," Ocasio-Cortez wrote about Harris' statement. "First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival. Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can't help set someone's house on fire and then blame them for fleeing."

She said the U.S. was partly to blame for the poor living conditions many in Latin American countries are faced with.

"It would be helpful if the US would finally acknowledge its contributions to destabilization and regime change in the region," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. "Doing so can help us change US foreign policy, trade policy, climate policy, & carceral border policy to address causes of mass displacement & migration."

Ocasio-Cortez also singled out Democrat Senate Joe Manchin for failing to back the For the People Act on Monday, accusing the moderate Democrat of supporting "voter suppression" for his refusal to support the bill, which he has argued is too broad.
