Traffic badly hit due to rains, 40 minutes congestion seen on Eastern Express Highway near Sion

Amid the first spell of the monsoons on Wednesday, the city observed waterlogging at several spots, leading to traffic congestion and diversion. The waterlogging badly hit the vehicular movement, continuing till afternoon, on the Western Express Highway (WEH) and Eastern Express Highway (EEH), as congestion went up to 40-45 minutes.

There was a major congestion on the EEH between Sion and Vikhroli, with bumper to bumper traffic, the vehicular movement had been dragged down to over 45 minutes delay. The SV Road near Santacruz (W) had also been waterlogged, leading to slow moving traffic.

Maha CM takes stock as heavy rain inundates parts of Mumbai

With heavy rains causing water-logging in many areas in Mumbai on Wednesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the administration to ensure that the accumulated rainwater is drained out at the earliest and transport resumed.

Thackeray spoke to the control rooms in Mumbai and collectors of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Palghar districts as incessant rains led to the inundation of several areas, affecting the normal life.
