GUWAHATI, June 8: Amidst the controversies over conducting High School Leaving Certification Examination (HSLC) and Higher Secondary Examinations, state education minister Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday hinted that both the exams can be conducted from August 1 to August 15.
The HSLC exam conducted by Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) and HS exam conducted by Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) were scheduled to be conducted from May, but were postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
“The health department told us that the situation will improve in July, but it will not be conducive to conduct exams. So, I can indicate that exams would be held from August 1 to 15,” Pegu said.
The minister stated that the results of the examination will be announced by September 5.
“The government will soon come up with a standard operating procedure (SOP) in this regard after a final call by the health department in the next 7 to 10 days. The examination centres are required to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols,” Pegu said addressing a press conference here.
Pegu also mentioned that the examinations are likely to be held with a limited number of subjects along with a possibility of shorter time duration.
“We have been informed by the health department that the possibility of the Covid situation getting to normal by July seems to be quite impossible. Hence, it was suggested that holding exams amidst this situation won’t be fruitful. In order to complete the entire examination process by September 5, we will soon come up with the assessment model and the timetable to be announced soon,” Pegu also said.
