Kolkata, Jun 8 (UNI) A fire today broke out on the fifth floor of the Apeejay House, Park
Street in south Kolkata where some eight fire fighting vehicles were trying the blaze under
control.
There had been no report of any casualty so far.
Panic ran high as soon as some people noticed the black smoke emanating from the
5th floor of the landmark building, however, the security personnel immediately called the
fire brigade services and eight fighting vehicles reached at the stop to combat the flames.
There are many offices at the 5th floor of the building, which was evacuated immediately.
In addition to some private banks and shops, there are many offices.
Firefighters smashed windows in the building and tried to bring the fire under control.
Park Street police and firefighters were at the scene at the moment.
State minister Firhad Hakim and Sujit Basu reached the spot after receiving the news.
Firhad said, Sujit Basu is looking into the matter. The fire was brought under control. "
The fire at the Apeejay House happened a day after a blaze was also reported on Park
Street yesterday when a a clothing warehouse on the ground floor of Park Lane was gutted.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out in the house of Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra in
Bhabanipur today where no casualty was reported.
