India on Tuesday morning recorded less than one lakh COVID-19 cases for the first time in over two months. As per Health Ministry data, India reported 86,498 new cases and 2,123 deaths in the last 24 hours. At the same time, 1,82,282 people had been discharged.

With this, the total number of active cases has now fallen to a little more than 13.03 lakh. At the state level, Karnataka continues to lead the charts with the highest number of active cases (2.54 lakh). A few other states including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Kerala remain above the one lakh mark.

As the second wave of the pandemic had swept through the country, the daily case tally had risen to record highs, breaching the four lakh mark. Tuesday's numbers offer a glimmer of hope, being the lowest in 66 days. At the same time, India's vaccination drive continues, with 23,61,98,726 does having been administered till date.
