BHOPAL: The electricity bill of poet of international fame, Manzar Bhopali has been rectified† to Rs 11,000. The poet had received a bill of Rs 36,86,660 for the month of May. He had posted the bill on social media raising concerns over the system.

Taking note of media reports, the electricity department took steps and corrected the bill to Rs 11,000. Company officials of the Central Zone Distribution Company said that it was an error on the part of the meter reader.

The electricity company official, DK Tiwari said that it was the fault of the meter reader. Actual consumption was of about 900 units and his bill is of over Rs 11,000. His electricity bill has been corrected and he has been informed about the correction, as well, he added. Tiwari also explained that the meter reader could not take exact reading because the meter is placed at a high point. The meter reader could not see the figures properly hence the mistake.

Manzar Bhopali confirmed with Free Press that DK Tiwari of the power company informed him about the fault and correction of his bill.
