UAE extends ban on incoming Indian flights

Jeddah: In another blow for NRIs stranded in India hoping to return to their workplaces, the United Arab Emirates has extended the suspension of flights from India until July 6. Following this, UAE passenger transport was suspended from India until July 6, the Indian airline Air India Express announced on Tuesday.

Air India Express tweeted that passengers booked during that period could reschedule their tickets.

The UAE announced the ban on passenger flights from India on April 24 following the increase in the country COVID-19 incidents. The restrictions have been extended from time to time. The UAE stopped accessing all travelers from India and those who were in India at any time during the 14 days prior to their arrival in the UAE. The only exceptions were made for UAE citizens, diplomats and UAE gold visa holders.

The summer season from June to August is considered a peak time for NRIs as a school holiday. However, uncertainty over the suspension of incoming passengers from India has hampered the travel plans of NRIs in the UAE and other wave countries.
