Insiders from State House have tipped-off this news website that former Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga’s time in government could be over for good.
Kadaga, who had been Speaker of Parliament for the last ten years sought to retain her position for a further five years term against the decision of her NRM party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC).
She was however defeated by Jacob Oulanyah who had deputized her for her entire ten years as Speaker.
Since the May 24 polls, it has been rumoured that Kadaga would bounce back as second in command (Vice President) to President Yoweri Museveni as a move by the party to console a chunk of her disappointed supporters within the ruling establishment.
News coming in however revealed that Museveni has already concluded his 80 man list of appointments and the third most important member of the party is conspicuously missing.
It’s also reported that former Kiboga Woman MP Ruth Nankabirwa is tipped to become Prime Minister, a move that political analysts could interpret to be a direct reward for her role in Kadaga’s ejection from the Speakership.
Also on the list of Kadaga’s known rivals to profit from the new cabinet is former Bugiri District Woman MP Justine Kasule Lumumba who is said to be lined up as an alternative to Nankabirwa as Prime Minister. This would mean swapping places with Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, believed to be heading to Kyadondo NRM Secretariate as Secretary-General.
A group of Kadaga’s supporters who visited her at her home in Muyenga, Kampala on Monday told this News site that she is already aware of the news and she is getting herself as composed as possible.
“We met mama today and she appeared so composed. She is aware of a plot to dissuade the President against including her in the next cabinet but she is keeping calm and ready for whatever comes her way.” Said one of the visitors who asked not to be named.
The group was led by former Kampala MP for the elderly contestant and musician Chance Nalubega.
In parliament since 1989, Kadaga remains one of the longest-serving Members of Parliament in the country’s history and if she is not included in the next cabinet, it will be her first time in over three decades serving as a common MP.
