A Richmond-Lenox EMS ambulance was involved in a crash while responding to a fatal three-vehicle crash in Casco Township on Sunday.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m., St. Clair County Sheriff deputies responded to a report of an injury crash in the 9900 block of Marine City Highway.
A 2017 Nissan Versa driven by a 58-year-old Lenox Township man was eastbound on Marine City Highway slowing to make a turn into a business. A 2008 Ford Edge driven by a 21-year-old Warren woman, also driving eastbound, failed to yield and struck the Nissan from behind, causing it to spin into the westbound lane, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff Department.
The Nissan was then struck by a 2011 Dodge Avenger driven by a 26-year-old Flint man, the sheriff department said.
The Lenox Township man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Flint man was transported by Richmond-Lenox EMS to McLaren Macomb Hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. The Warren woman was uninjured in the crash, according to the department.
The Ira Township Fire Department and Richmond/Lenox EMS also responded to the crash.
A Richmond-Lenox EMS ambulance was also involved in a crash while responding to the fatal crash.
Chesterfield Township Police Sgt. Kenneth Anderson said shortly after 4:30 p.m., a Richmond-Lenox EMS ambulance was driving eastbound on 26 Mile Road when it collided with a Chevy pickup truck traveling southbound on County Line Road at the intersection of 26 Mile Road and Marine City Highway.
The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the ambulance were not hospitalized, Anderson said.
Richmond-Lenox EMS Chief Jeff White confirmed the ambulance was traveling to the fatal Marine City Highway crash at the time of the crash with the pickup.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
