Zomato To Completely Switch To Electric Vehicles By 2030 — EVs For Eco-Friendly Food Delivery
Zomato has committed to use only EVs for all its deliveries from 2030. With this commitment, Zomato has joined Climate Group's global electric mobility initiative - EV100. At present, even though Zomato is using EVs for food deliveries, they are yet to completely shift to EVs.
As of now, only a small fraction of EVs serve as Zomato's food delivery vehicles, and they are limited to tier 1 cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. A Few major reasons for the slow adoption rate of EVs are the higher upfront cost, limited battery range, limited charging infrastructure and high charging time.
However, many companies are betting big on the rapid growth and development of EVs and are confident that EV manufacturers will address these shortcomings very soon. Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Zomato has said that the brand is actively supporting a transition into EVs by creating an ecosystem consisting of EV manufacturers, battery suppliers, and the government.
We already know that the food delivery giant is already working with a few EV manufacturers to design pilot projects and create business models that could help achieve a faster transition to more sustainable deliveries through EVs.
"We want to be accountable for the impact we create and contribute to finding solutions for the world's most important environmental challenges, that are a by-product of our own progress," added Mr Goyal.
Thoughts On Zomato's Decision To Go All-Electric By 2030
It is great to see corporate giants stepping forward and taking initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint. Our government too is stepping up and is making things better for the upcoming generation. By 2030, it is not just Zomato that will change, but we believe a majority of the world's businesses would have switched to EVs by then.
