CHENNAI: BJP Tamil Nadu unit president L Murugan on Tuesday demanded that the state government dissolve an experts committee headed by retired judge Justice A K Rajan that was formed to study the impact of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) on medical admission. He termed it a “needless committee.”
Murugan said the formation of the committee would result in a waste of time. It can study whether there was water on Mars or not, but it cannot find any new issue about NEET, he said.
Instead of misleading the students, who were preparing for the exam, the state government should work for the welfare of the students, said Murugan in a statement.
Congress-led UPA government, in which the DMK was part, was responsible for bringing in NEET. After looking into multiple factors, the Supreme Court had made it clear that NEET was necessary, he said and noted the erstwhile AIADMK government had provided 7.5% reservation for government school students to benefit the rural students. However, Stalin was trying to stop the poor and rural students from benefiting from the exclusive reservation, he added.
