Toyota Innova has been a very popular MPV in the market. It has been around for over a decade and we have currently the 2021 version of the Innova Crysta in the market. It is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Innova and Innova Crysta are known for its reliability, comfortable ride and low cost of maintenance. Mahindra Scorpio is also an SUV that has been in the market for a very long time. Mahindra is now working on the next-generation of the SUV and the same has been spotted testing several times. Currently, Scorpio is only available with a diesel engine. Here we have a video that shows a current generation Mahindra Scorpio and Innova Crysta diesel in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Ashish Yadav on his YouTube channel. Vlogger starts by talking about the technical specifications of both the SUVs. Mahindra Scorpio is powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 140 Bhp and 319 Nm of peak torque. The Innova Crysta is a BS6 version which gets a 2.4 litre turbocharged diesel engine. This engine generates 148 Bhp and 343 Nm of peak torque.

The vlogger lines up both the vehicles on the start line and as Innova Crysta comes with two drive modes, multiple rounds of the race are done. In first round, Innova Crysta in Eco mode. Mahindra Scorpio does not comes with any drive modes. The race starts are Innova Crysta takes the lead instantly. Driver in Mahindra Scorpio can be seen pushing the car hard but, it was not able to overtake it. Innova Crysta wins the first round without any problem.

In next round, the driver’s swap vehicles and just like the first round, both SUVs move off the line at almost the same time but, Innova Crysta takes the lead once again. Innova was driven in Eco Mode in the second round as well. Toyota Innova Crysta maintained the lead throughout the round and Mahindra Scorpio did not overtake the Innova Crysta even once.

Before third and final round, the driver’s swap vehicles and the Innova is now being driven in the Power mode. Just like the first two rounds, Toyota moved off the line and quickly took the pole position. Mahindra Scorpio was right behind it but, it could not overtake at any point. Toyota Innova Crysta won this drag race. The main reason why Innova Crysta won this race is because it has a much more powerful engine that Mahindra Scorpio.

On paper, Toyota Innova is much more heavier than Mahindra Scorpio and it felt like the added weight in Crysta might act in favour of Mahindra Scorpio but, the diesel engine in Innova Crysta generated a lot more torque and power which made no difference to the performance. Design of the vehicles would have also played a role in this race. Scorpio has a tall design whereas the Innova looks a lot more aerodynamic. Such races must never be done on public roads. Always choose a closed road for such experiments because, you’ll be putting lives of other people in danger along with yours if anything goes wrong.
