Abohar: In December, 2006, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh provided Rs 17.23 crore for the first rail overbridge to be constructed on the Abohar-Hanumangarh highway to resolve the problem faced by commuters. He laid its foundation days before the Vidhan Sabha polls. The work was completed by the next govt. Since the space under the RoB had been misused by auto mechanics, their activities troubled the visitors. Under “Chokho-Abohar” project, the “Apna Abohar, Apni Abha” team has developed a mini park with active participation of the Municipal Corporation to make the best use of the space. On the occasion of “World Environment Day” the team created beautiful paintings to make the park more adorable.

Bajwa poll-ready?

Gurdaspur: RS member Partap Singh Bajwa’s statement in New Delhi recently that he will be contesting the next year’s Assembly polls has made Congress politicians “jittery”. This claim in any case was a foregone conclusion, but now it has come straight from the horse’s mouth. The interesting thing is from which seat he will contest. Insiders say in all likelihood, Bajwa will throw his hat in the electoral ring from one of the seven general category seats his former Lok Sabha constituency of Gurdaspur has. Out of these seven, six are represented by Congress legislators and nobody is going to do a favour by leaving his seat for this Congressman. The choice, hence, narrows down to Batala which does not have a sitting Congress MLA.

Fazilka’s walls carry messages

Fazilka: Nauzwan Samaj Sewa Sanstha, an NGO, painted about 200-ft-long wall of a park at the new Gandhi Nagar locality. Project in-charge Lachhman Dost said NGO members painted the walls with social and motivational messages. Artists Santosh Chaudhary and Raj Kumari said earlier also they painted the walls of Pratap Bagh and an area at Sadiqi BOP, where joint retreat ceremony by the Indian and Pak forces are carried out. Earlier, the parks were an eyesore as the MC failed to maintain them.
