YouTuber Logan Paul went the distance against boxing champion Floyd Mayweather on Sunday night, making it through all eight rounds without a knockout.
There was no official decision because of the fight’s exhibition status, but it was clear that Mayweather’s boxing skills surpassed those of Paul — though Paul’s stamina and ability to take a punch was admirable. Throughout the fight, Mayweather continued to land punches, with Paul clearly looking fatigued. However, none were heavy enough to deliver a KO. Despite his inexperience, Paul is now the only Mayweather opponent not to lose, and managed to stand his ground longer than Conor McGregor, who famously challenged him in 2017.
Held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the exhibition fight was available to watch on Showtime pay-per-view for $49.99. The eight-round match between Paul and Mayweather was certainly a surprising one, given that Mayweather is an undefeated world champion and Paul had only fought once on-camera in 2019, when he was defeated by British YouTuber KSI.
Paul and Mayweather’s fight was coined a “special exhibition,” meaning that regular fighting rules were modified. For example, Paul and Mayweather are quite mismatched size-wise — Paul is 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighed in at 189.5 pounds, whereas Mayweather stands at 5 feet 8 inches and weighed in at 155 pounds — which wouldn’t normally be allowed. The exhibition also did not have any judges, with stoppages being assessed by a referee, and therefore no official decision. It was set at a maximum of eight three-minute rounds.
Though Mayweather and Paul’s fight was the main attraction of the night, three other boxing matches also took place. Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson lost to Brian Maxwell, Luis Arias beat Jarrett Hurd in a split decision and and Badou Jack won over Dervin Colina.
