SHILLONG, June 6: All India Mahila Congress president and former MP Sushmita Dev has asked Meghalaya government to take necessary steps for rescuing the trapped miners of the coal mine accident in East Jaintia Hills district.
In her letter to Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Sunday, Dev said, “Considering the gravity of the situation, I would request you to kindly take necessary measures for rescue of these above two labourers at the earliest possible.”
At least five miners were trapped inside a coal mine in Sutnga Elaka after the tragic accident which took place on the night of May 30.
She said although search and rescue operations are on, as per report, many of them are yet to be recovered.
The former MP also informed that the two labourers of Assam namely Anwar Hussain of Najatpur village of Katigorah and Abdul Sukkur of Badarpur who are yet to be traced out.
“Since almost five days have elapsed from the tragic incident, their lives might be in danger,” she said.
According to her, the family members of the two labourers are suffering from serious mental agony about their whereabouts. They are anxiously waiting for the safe rescue of their wards by the administration.
A similar letter was also submitted to the Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his intervention.
