Jun. 6—ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man on a motorcycle was fatally shot in Downtown Albuquerque at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Ten minutes later, police found a man shot to death when officers responded to an address on the West Side.

Albuquerque police have launched homicide investigations into the shootings, which are the 51st and 52nd homicides in the city this year.

Gilbert Gallegos, a police spokesman, said officers responded early Sunday to a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Broadway and Coal SE. It appeared the man driving the motorcycle was shot prior to the crash. He was transported to a local hospital and died of his injuries.

Minutes later, police were called the 7300 block of Blue Avena SW, near Unser and Arenal, after gunshots were reported.

Police found a man dead inside the home they were checking, Gallegos said.

He said police interviewed two people at the scene. They were both released.

Gallegos didn't provide any additional details about the cases. Police didn't say if the cases were related to each other.

Albuquerque, like several other large cities in the country, has seen an increase in serious crimes, including homicides, in the first half of 2021 in comparison to last year.
