Punjab has topped the Performance Grading Index in the field of education.

School Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Sunday said it was the result of sustained and concentrated efforts of the Congress-led state government that Punjab had clinched the position.

The grading index is released by the Union Government on the basis of 70 parameters to catalyse a transformational change in the field of school education.

He said several reforms had been made to achieve optimal education outcomes. “The smart school policy, online teacher transfer policy, direct recruitment to administrator-level positions through the PPSC, introduction of pre-primary classes, recruitment of teachers, online education and distribution of free smartphones under the Punjab Smart Connect Scheme are the reasons behind improvement in the level of education in state schools,” he added. The state has improved its PGI score by 10 per cent over the previous year.

Krishan Kumar, secretary, School Education, said, “This achievement is dedicated to all principals, heads and teachers who have made great efforts in bringing about quality education to government schools.”
