Review recent poll performance: PM's message to BJP ahead of key elections

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the BJP should conduct a comprehensive analysis of its performance in the recent assembly elections and the party workers should reach out to all sections of the society, PTI reported on Monday quoting sources.
The Prime Minister's remarks came at a two-day review meeting of the BJP on the Covid relief work done by the party workers during the second wave as well as the recent performance in the elections held in West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The BJP failed to topple the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in the high-stakes West Bengal elections. However, it did register a significant gain in its seat tally from 3 in 2016 to 77 in 2021.
The BJP-led NDA managed to win elections in Assam and Puducherry. The party could not make much of a mark in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
During the meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister gave several suggestions to the BJP leaders regarding further strengthening the party and expanding its base among people, the sources said.
A source told ANI that PM Modi asked everyone to work for the masses with full dedication.
"If people need help they should approach them and no one else. With or without political post, people should know them for the help they are extending," a source quoted PM Modi as saying.
The sources said that PM Modi shared his own experiences and motivated everyone to think out of the box.
They said the Prime Minister also made suggestions to ensure the effectiveness of their handles on social media.
His suggestions come just months ahead of the crucial assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh which are slated for early next year. Six other states are also scheduled to go to polls.
