Members of five unions under the banner of the Joint Front of Unemployed today raised slogans against the government’s proposal to give jobs to sons of MLAs outside the residence of Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla.

Demanding government jobs, they have been sitting here on indefinite protest since December 31.

“We have passed all exams and have all mandatory qualification. We have been sitting here on indefinite protest since December 31, but the government is not taking our protest seriously and not taking any action to recruit us. But it is preparing to recruit the sons of MLAs without any competitive exams. We will not tolerate it,” said Sukhwinder Dhilwan, president of BEd and TET pass union.

Members of BEd and TET pass, along with the members of four other unions — All Punjab 873 DPE teachers union, 646 PTI teachers union, Unemployed Art and Craft Union and Unemployed Multipurpose health union — have been staging the protest. “We will intensify our agitation as the recruitment of sons of MLAs is illegal,” said Harjinder Singh, another leader of the front.
