The Sri Lankan Parliament recently passed the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill, which gives China absolute control over the ongoing Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project. The Chinese backed project is less than 300 kilometres from Indian coasts and that raises concerns for India's strategic and economic security. Opposition parties in Sri Lanka are concerned about increasing Chinese clout in their country.
