What is downstream USB ports on monitor?

My Dell 1704FP digital flat panel has two "downstream USB" ports on the left side. What are these for? The DO NOT appear to work as normal USB port, since I plugged a memory device into the port and it wasn't recognized (plus the "downstream," mentioned on the enclosed instruction sheet, seems...

Thanks. So it's basically a powered USB 3.0 hub. Very handy since those things cost upwards of 1000 rupees.

I would have purchased if I hadn't bought a new monitor just 2 months ago. That USB hub would have been very handy for me as my desktop's front panel is broken. I bought a hub as well earlier this month.

paid 1.5k (around 11 Kg), 900+ kms


adding another monitor for a friend

Model - Dell E1916H Ports - DP & VGA
Price - 4000/-

Monitor is around 18 months old, perfectly working and in excellent condition, as of now no invoice available, so consider it as out of warranty.

Includes VGA cable & display port cable & power cable
