Kolkata: In the view of COVID-19 pandemic, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee cancelled the board examinations under the

“We have received over 24,000 mails out of which 79 percent people were against holding the Madhyamik examination and 83 percent were against the Higher Secondary examinations. In keeping with them, I am cancelling the board examination for this year,” said the Chief Minister adding that the lives of 12 lakh students are more important at this point.

Urging the education department and council to form a committee, Mamata asked them to submit a report within seven days on how to evaluate the students.

“The marking can be on internal assessments or home assignment or even class 9 and 11 results can also be assessed. The committee will have to submit an all round report within seven days,” added Mamata also mentioning that the students should not face any problems in attending other competitive examinations for further education.

Welcoming the move, West Bengal BJP Chief Dilip Ghosh said that the lives of the students who are the future of the country are more important.

Notably, on June 5 giving three email addresses Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to seek public opinion on conducting board examinations in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, apart from the examination announcement, the Chief Minister also reviewed pre-monsoons preparedness in West Bengal.

“It is said that a high tide is due on June 26 which will be more impactful than cyclone Yaas and also the monsoons is set to enter South Bengal soon so there should not be any problem in the sewerage system and no one should face any problem,” claimed Mamata adding that everyone affected due to cyclone Yaas should get relief materials so that no one stays unattended.
