Shree Samulailatpam Joychandra Sharma is born on 29 November, 1950 at Nagamapal Lamabam Leikai Soram Leirak, Imphal.
Born to Samulailatpam Gourachandra Sharma and Amusana Devi, Joychandra had a keen interest in paintings and sculpting of idols since childhood.
In 1974 Joychandra Sharma completed Diploma in painting from Imphal Art College, secured first class in Post Diploma Sculpture from Baroda Faculty of Fine Arts in 1981 and MS University Baroda in 1983.
He had attained fellowship from Manipur State Kala Academy in 1979, 1981, 1982 and got the senior fellowship from Human Resource Development, Ministry of Culture, New Delhi during 1998 to 2000.
He is teaching the art of sculpture at Imphal Art College.
Joychandra Sharma had been a part of various exhibitions, workshops and camps held at different parts of the country like Kolkata, Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi and other north-eastern states.
As a member of Art Society Manipur he has been giving huge contribution in the field.
He is a recipient of Manipur State Kala Academy Award 1980 and 1983, Rajkumar Yumjaosana Gold Medal 2007 awarded by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Imphal.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of art of sculpture, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Imphal awarded him the title of Kala Bhusan(lai saba) on its 83rd Annual Conference.
