The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday directed schools to complete all internal assessments and submit the scores to the board by 28 June. This is the first clear indication that the board aims to announce the Class XII results in July.

The board has told the schools that all pending assessments, project work, and practical interviews must be done online and they must take guard against inflating marks for practical examination and project work.

A CBSE circular extended from 11 June to 28 June the date by which all schools could submit scores. The circular underlined that this will have to be done online and that it will give no further extension.

“No extension of last date for uploading marks, which is 28 June, will be done. The schools are advised to complete all evaluation well before June 28 and upload the marks meticulously," CBSE said.

The Union government on 1 June cancelled the CBSE Class XII examination for the 2020-21 academic year, ended confusion in this regard among 1.4 million students. The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in view of the covid-19 pandemic ravaging the country. The government had said then that results will be announced via an objective criteria.

Last week, CBSE and the education ministry set up a committee comprising academics, bureaucrats, and other experts to devise an evaluation policy. The panel will submit the recommendations, which will help grade students after schools submit the scores, by 15 June.

CBSE schools are required to submit marks for theory, practical examination, project work, and internal assessment separately, the board said Monday.

“Immediately on completion of the examination, the marks should be uploaded on the link provided by the board. While uploading marks, it should be ensured that correct marks are uploaded, as no correction in marks will be allowed subsequently," CBSE said in its circular.

It has also asked schools and examiners to keep in mind that marks should not be inflated because of the situation this year.

CBSE has also said that internal examiners should take a photograph of each student during viva voce and for school records. Schools should follow all covid protocols while conducting school-based assessments, it said.

“For the conduct of practical examination or project evaluation, where external examiners are appointed by CBSE, the external examiners will decide the date of examinations in consultation with internal examiners and take viva voce through online," it said.
